Kenya braces for continued rainfall as Weatherman issues 5-day forecast

Kenyans should brace for more rainfall over the next five days, with the Kenya Meteorological Department predicting continued wet weather in most parts of the country starting Saturday, April 5, through to Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
The department has projected varied weather conditions across different regions, ranging from thunderstorms to light showers and fluctuating temperatures.
Areas in the western highlands, including the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, are expected to receive morning rains, with heavier showers and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon.
“Rainfall will persist into the night in these areas, although a slight reduction in intensity is expected by Wednesday,” the department noted.
Daytime temperatures in this region will vary between 31°C and 32°C, while the nights will cool down to about 10°C.
Similar weather is expected in the highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi. Morning rainfall is expected to be followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
According to Director of Meteorological Services, David Gikungu, the rains will likely extend into the night before easing midweek.
“Daytime temperatures will hover around 28°C, with night-time temperatures ranging between 10°C and 12°C,” he said.
In the North-eastern region covering counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo the forecast points to light rainfall in isolated areas during the morning, with thunderstorms anticipated in the afternoon.
Evenings will remain mostly cloudy, with the possibility of isolated showers.
Temperatures are expected to climb to 39°C on Tuesday before dipping slightly to 38°C on Wednesday.
The North-western region, which includes Turkana and Samburu counties, is expected to remain hot.
The mornings will begin with sunshine, followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with occasional light rainfall at night.
Daytime temperatures are projected to reach up to 38°C, with early morning lows of around 11°C.
In the South-eastern lowlands, such as Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, sunny intervals are expected during the morning hours, followed by rain showers in the afternoon and nighttime.
Temperatures will range from 33°C to 35°C, with night-time lows between 15°C and 16°C.
Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, are forecast to experience morning and afternoon showers in several areas, with partly cloudy conditions expected in the evening.
Daytime temperatures will vary between 34°C and 35°C, while night-time temperatures will range from 23°C to 25°C.
The Meteorological Department has urged Kenyans to stay alert and follow weather updates to prepare for possible disruptions caused by the changing weather patterns.
It also encouraged the public to refer to daily forecasts for more accurate and localised information.
As the rains continue to spread across the country, the department’s advice to remain prepared and informed is expected to help residents manage daily activities around the fluctuating conditions.
